Gandhi
By Luke
Mahatma Ghandi, or better known as Ghandi, was born in Porbander of what is now Gujarat on October 2, 1869. He went to school in nearby Rajkot, during the time of British rule. Ghandi's father died before he finished his schooling, also at the age of 13 he got married. 1888 Mahatma Ghandi set sail for England where he decided to pursue a degree in law. The elders disagreed of him going but they could not stop him. As he studied in London, he was strongly attracted to theosophists, vegetarians, and others who were disenchanted not only with industrialism, but with the thought of Enlightenment. Ghandi finished his degree form the Inner Temple at the bar in 1891, he had also enrolled in the High Court of London, but within a year he had gone back to India.
Ghandi was politically awakened when he was thrown out of a first class railway compartment car, when he had held a first class ticket, at Pietermarizburg. He emerged as a leader of the Indian-community. It was in South America where he showed the famous theory and practice of non-violent resistance. When he went back to India he spent a year traveling and was involved in local struggles. The salt march set off the first resistance to the British empire as he picked up a lump of salt, which set off others to do the same and defy the British for their countries' independence.

Gandhi is a great example of having good moral behavior such as being a humanitarian, non-violent civil rights activist and vegan. He studied law in London in 1993; where he chose a life changing lifestyle becoming vegan. Before leaving his hometown West India he made a religious vow to his mother not to eat meat while he was in London, even as he struggled in the streets of London he kept his vow. Gandhi would walk miles on the seek of finding vegan restaurants, there he found a booklet by Henry Salt named A Plea for Vegetarianism (1885). After reading the booklet, Gandhi realized a vegan lifestyle would benefit him referring to the quote in booklet “even dairy produce is quite unnecessary”. Gandhi was picked to give a speech for the London Vegetarian Society, his speech was base on The Moral Basis of Vegetarianism. He later went to South Africa, where he spent 20 years opposing discriminatory legislation against Indians and African Americans from the Colonial British powers. Over the years of his journey to South African Gandhi suffered many racial discrimination from getting kicked out of trains for boarding first class to getting thrown out of court for wearing a turban. Gandhi always focused on being a nonviolent activist and tried teaching others it was the correct way, even if it got him arrested a few times for going against uncivil laws he was always went to jail with pride. Gandhi has much potential to be a representative for TOMS from being a philosopher, a lawyer to humanitarian, a leader, and vegan. He has many qualities and interest many people don't have, he doesn't just care for the peace but for the people, animals, and the good of others. He had a goal to fight against the discrimination in a peaceful matter and accomplished it by being nominated for the nobel peace prize.
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.
